Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans returned home to an impressive crowd Saturday night against the Tulsa Oilers at the Allen Event Center, dropping a disappointing loss, 6-1.
Continuing a tough stretch of games, the Americans returned home to kick off a weekend home and home series against the Tulsa Oilers. Riley Gill looked to build off a remarkable Friday night 44-save shutout against Wichita, but stumbled out of the gate against the Oilers. Tulsa notched three goals in the first from Dan DeSalvo, Adam Pleskach, and Matt Konan. DeSalvo found the net by banking a rebound off of the back of Gill and in. Pleskach was able to deflect one in after the Americans turned over the puck in their own defensive zone. Konan was able to rip one in clean past Gill on a 5-on-3 Power Play for the Oilers, as the Americans were unable to muster any offense, and the first period ended with a frustrating 3-0 deficit.
The second period saw the Americans finally find the back of the net in this game, with a Gary Steffes Power Play goal. The goal came with eight seconds left in the period. However, that Steffes goal came after two more from Tulsa. Both Oilers goals came from Pleskach, finishing off a hat trick performance. The second frame also saw Joel Rumpel come in to replace Riley Gill.
Pouring salt into the wound, Oilers forward Emerson Clark scored a highlight reel goal to extend the score to 6-1 in the third period. Clark finished the night with a goal and an assist earning the third star of the game
This was that kind of night for the Americans where everything that could have gone wrong, did. Power Play chances left unconverted, miscues, and stray passes all boiled into one big forgetful night for Allen in front of a big crowd. Trying to find the silver lining, there is a quick turnaround opportunity to right the ship again tomorrow.
The Allen Americans hit the road against the Tulsa Oilers tomorrow afternoon, Sunday the 21st, at 4:05 pm.
