
Season-high seventeen hits help Quebec down Jackals

Little Falls, NJ - Les Capitales de Quebec scored a season-high nine runs on 17 hits as they defeated the New Jersey Jackals 9-3 on Monday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Jackals starter Aaron Tressler (1-2) struggled for the second consecutive start against Quebec, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on ten hits over 4 2/3 innings as he took the loss. Capitales starter Eric Cyr (2-0) picked up the win. The former San Diego Padre went 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on six hits while striking out eight. Quebec jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by catcher Greg Stevens and a sacrifice fly off the bat of shortstop Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas. In the third, Les Capitales made it 4-0 following an RBI double from first baseman Eddie Lantigua and a run-scoring single by designated hitter Pat Scalabrini. In the bottom of the third, Jackals catcher Craig Maddox hit a solo home run to right center, his first of the season, to cut the Quebec lead to 4-1.
After Les Capitales scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning, they blew the game open with three runs in the top of the fifth. An RBI single by right fielder Issael Gonzalez was followed two batters later by a Goefrey Tomlinson two-run double that made it 8-1 Quebec.
The Jackals scored a run in the bottom of the sixth when third baseman Chris Kelly lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 8-2. An eighth inning sacrifice fly by first baseman Juan Tejeda cut the Quebec lead to 8-3 before Les Capitales added an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Rochon-Salvas scored on a throwing error by Maddox to cap the scoring at 9-3.
The Jackals and Capitales continue their three game series tomorrow night when right-hander Juan Done takes the hill for New Jersey against Michel Simard for Quebec. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium.
