
Skyhawks win 6-5 over Rox

AUGUSTA, N.J. - *Walter Young jolted a grand slam and Kyle Ruwe picked up his third win in as many tries to send the Sussex Skyhawks to a 6-5 victory over the Brockton Rox in Can-Am League action at Skylands Park on Monday night.

Young finished the game 2-for-4 with 5 RBI to spark the Skyhawks offensively. Ruwe (3-0) went 8.2 innings for the win, giving up four earned runs and 11 hits. Matt Petrusek picked up his third save of the season to close it out. Brockton falls to 7-5.

The Skyhawks did most of their damage in the fourth inning when, with the score 1-1, Chris Brown and Ron Perodin smacked back-to-back singles and Jorge Moreno walked to set the table for Young's grand slam to right field. The grand slam was the first in the organization's three-year history.

Brockton ruined Ruwe's bid for a complete game when they pounded out five hits and pushed across four runs in the ninth inning, highlighted by Ervin Alcantara's two-run triple. Petrusek came in with two outs and, after giving up a single, picked up the save for Sussex.
Mike McTamney (0-2) was tagged with the loss for Brockton. He gave up six runs and nine hits in 6.1 IP.
Phillip Cuadrado went 3-for-4 with a double and triple for the Rox, and Alcantara finished 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Brockton and Sussex return to action tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the second game of the three game set.
