
Quebec's Laforest Selected Player of the Year

DURHAM, NC - The Can-Am League announced today that Quebec Capitales 1B/C Pierre-Luc LaForest was selected by the league field managers and media as the 2009 Player of the Year.
LaForest has had a terrific season for the playoff bound Capitales. The Montebello, QC resident is currently batting .280 with 24 home runs, 82 RBI and 69 runs scored. LaForest leads the league in four offensive categories: Home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage (.569) and extra base hits (47). He is third in on-base percentage (.407) and runs scored.
The 31-year-old veteran has won the Batter of the Week award three times this season as well as the B45's July Batter of the Month. LaForest was selected by the Montreal Expos in the 16th round of the 1995 draft. LaForest played nine seasons in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, reaching the majors in 2003 and 2005. He also played in the big leagues with the San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies.
