Worcester Tornadoes News Release

WORCESTER, MA--- The Worcester Tornadoes ended their regular season with their eighth loss in a row in eleven innings this afternoon with a 7-6 loss to the Brockton Rox.

In a game that had more of an exhibition feel to it, the Rox and Tornadoes used a total of thirteen pitchers including Worcester left fielder Vinny Pennell (0-1) in an extra innings affair. Pennell threw a perfect tenth before coughing up the game winning run on a fielder's choice from Chris Valencia.

With the game tied at two a piece, Brockton broke out their bats in the top of the sixth. Against Baron Short and Chris Anderson the Rox came up with four runs, including homers to Clyde Williams (16) and Phil Cuadrado (8). Not beaten the Tornadoes would answer with an Alex Pena two run dinger, a Carlos Sosa long ball, and an unearned run to knot the score at six.

After Pennell gave up the go-ahead run in the eleventh, Greg Lemon singled with one out, but was erased on a strike-em-out-throw-em-out double play on the next batter. Gerry Dunn notched his twenty fourth save of the year to move into a tie for the league lead, and Adam Piechowski improved to 8-4 with scoreless ninth and tenth innings.

Worcester begins the playoffs at home Wednesday at 7:05 against the first half champion New Jersey Jackals. It will be a battle of star left-handers when league win leader Ryan Lobban (10-7) locks horns with the LHP of the year AJ Wideman (9-5).
