Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release
LEOMINSTER, Mass - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs' season came to a heartbreaking end after splitting a double header with the Martha's Vineyard Sharks. The Dirt Dawgs took game one by a score of 11-1 and fell to the Sharks 2-1 in eight innings in game two.
Mike Lundin (Franklin Pierce) pitched the complete seven innings in game one only giving up one hit while striking out 14 picking up his fifth win of the season. Mike Corin (URI) set a Futures Collegiate Baseball League record with his 14th home run of the season. Brendan Skidmore (Binghamton) also had a three run home run totaling four RBIs in the game.
The Sharks struggled in game one only getting four runners onto base. The lone bright spot was Will Toffey (Vanderbilt) who had a solo home run in the second inning. Garrison Banas (Stetson) pitched a scoreless inning in the seventh.
The Dirt Dawgs only had three hits in the second game. PJ Browne (Merrimack) pitched seven innings only allowing six hits, one earned run, while striking out six. Kurtis White (Franklin Pierce) scored the only Dirt Dawgs run.
Luke Bonfield (Arkansas) hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give the Sharks the lead. Matt Binder (Millersville), Scott Stonestreet (Delgado Community College), and Patrick Nicholson (Stonehill) combined for four scoreless innings while only giving up two hits.
The Dirt Dawgs finished the season with a 26-29 record. They broke numerous league records including most runs scored, most RBIs, and most home runs in a season.
