April 5, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Las Vegas Gladiators News Release

( Las Vegas, NV) - After a sluggish 1-4 start to the 2006 AFL campaign, the Las Vegas Gladiators have caught fire and won four of five heading into Sunday's match-up with the Nashville Kats. At 5-5, the Gladiators are tied with the Arizona Rattlers in the Western Division. A rookie starting quarterback, a blend of NFL talent and AFL vets and locker-room cohesiveness have all contributed to mid-season turn-a-round.

Quarterback Jason Fife has been spectacular since taking over the reigns in Week five versus Dallas. Not only has the former Oregon standout completed 121-of-187 passes for 1333 yards and 26 touchdowns despite eight interceptions, he has also made his mark on the ground, rushing for 107 yards and eight touchdowns (2nd in AFL). Offensive Coordinator Mike Hold has the league's top ranked rushing team (37.5 yards per game) catching fire at the right time. Integrating offensive specialist Marcus Nash (83 receptions, 930 yards and 23 TD's), Ironman Joe Douglass (32 receptions, 387 yards and 8 TD's) with a steady diet of running from Marlion Jackson (22 carries, 112 yards and 3 TD's) and Rodney Filer (14 carries, 73 yards and 1 TD), have kept the offense balanced and unpredictable.

Las Vegas will face a tough Nashville Kats (6-4) squad this Sunday, April 9. The contest will have playoff implications, the Kats and Gladiators would be the three and four seeds respectively in the American Conference Playoffs at this point in the season.
