New York City FC News Release
New York City Football Club is delighted to confirm that goalkeeper Sean Johnson has been selected to represent the United States Men's National Team at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The 33-year-old made his senior international debut in January 2011 during a friendly draw against Chile.
His competitive debut for the USMNT came two years later during the Gold Cup - playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win against Costa Rica.
That summer would see Johnson claim the first of his three Gold Cup winners' medals, with further call-ups arriving during the years that followed.
His return to the field with the USMNT came against Panama in 2019 in a 3-0 friendly victory. He would claim the seventh of his ten caps in a win against Ecuador and has since faced Panama, Costa Rica and Uruguay.
Selected consistently by Gregg Berhalter in 2022, Johnson has now earned a spot on the plane to Qatar for the tournament.
The USMNT have been drawn in Group B alongside Iran, England, and Wales. Their first game will see them take on Wales on November 21, before meetings with England on November 25, and Iran on November 29.
Everyone at the Club would like to congratulate Sean on this wonderful achievement and wish him good luck during the tournament.
