FC Dallas News Release
FRISCO, Texas - FC Dallas Homegrown striker Jesús Ferreira has been named to United States' 26-man roster by head coach Gregg Berhalter for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022© that kicks off November 20 with the host country facing Ecuador.
Ferreira, 21, earns his fifth call up of 2022 and ninth overall since becoming a U.S. citizen on Dec. 16, 2019. He made his USMNT senior team debut in the 1-0 win against Costa Rica on Feb. 1, 2020. He has scored seven goals and recorded four assists for the Stars and Stripes in 15 appearances. He is also just the fifth player in USMNT history to score four goals in a match, doing so against Grenada on June 10, 2022.
Ferreira had a historic 2022 season with FC Dallas where he scored a career-high of 18 goals and recorded six assists in 33 appearances. He tied the club's single-season record for goals in a season, which is jointly held by Kenny Cooper (18 in 2008) and Jason Kreis (18 in 1999). Ferreira's 18 goals were also the third most by an MLS player prior to turning 22 years old, behind only Stern John (26 in 1998) and Mamadou Diallo (22 in 2000). Along with his record-breaking season, Ferreira earned the 2022 Young Player of the Year award for both FC Dallas and MLS, was recognized on MLS' Best XI, topped the MLS' 22 Under 22 list, was named an MLS All-Star and earned five Team of the Week accolades.
