BILOXI, MS - Despite jumping out to an early three-goal lead, chasing reigning ECHL Goaltender of the Year Anton Khudobin from the net, and a
hat-trick from Ryan Cruthers, the Mississippi Sea Wolves fell to the Florida Everblades by the score of 9-5 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum
on Tuesday morning.
Ryan Cruthers scored his first goal of the game just 4:25 into the first period, as the Everblades goaltender Khudobin misplayed the puck directly
to the Sea Wolves and Cruthers flipped it over the Kazakh-born goalie for a 1-0 Sea Wolves lead. At 7:24, Alexandre Parent popped in a backhander to
give Mississippi a 2-0 lead. Kyle Peto's first goal as a Sea Wolf at 10:17 of the first on the power play chased Khudobin from the net and gave the
Pack a 3-0 lead midway through the first.
The Everblades came thundering back as Kevin Baker potted his 18th goal of the year on a two-on-one shorthand break, putting a wrist shot over Sea
Wolves goaltender Jeremy Duchesne's glove at 11:10. Colin Nicholson cut the Sea Wolves' lead to one as he banged home a rebound at 12:53 of the
first period.
Danick Bouchard and Yannick Tifu notched power-play goals for the Everblades at 4:13 and 4:57 as Florida grabbed the lead early in the
second period. Ryan Cruthers' second goal of the game cut the Florida lead to 5-4 at 12:53, but the Blades' A.J. Thelen answered back with a
power-play goal on a blast from the blue line at 15:47 of the second priod.
Ryan Lang, Peter Metcalf and Colin Nicholson contributed third-period goals for Florida, while Ryan Cruthers completed his hat-trick in the
final frame, but the Sea Wolves never threatened the Everblades lead through the final stanza.
Jeremy Duchesne made 35 saves to take the loss, and the Sea Wolves were 1-for-3 on the power play.
