
Sea Dogs Win a Crazy One

In a game that featured 16 goals, the Saint John Sea Dogs outlasted the Moncton Wildcats 9-7 Sunday afternoon at the Moncton Coliseum. Guillaume Cloutier, Stephan MacAulay, Mike Thomas, Simon Despres, Ryan Tesink, Steven Anthony, Zach Phillips, Jonathan Huberdeau and Stanislav Galiev all scored for Saint John as they got goals from nine different players. Alex Saulnier and Daniel Milan with a pair, Daniel Pettersson, Marek Hrivik and Allain Saulnier replied for Moncton. Shane Owen who stopped 29 of 37 suffered the loss for the Wildcats. Fredric Piche started the game for the Sea Dogs but was replaced by Jacob Deserres 4:12 into the game allowed two goals on three shots. Deserres stopped 22 of 27 shots for the win. Moncton was 5 for 8 on the powerplay while Saint John was scoreless on their three opportunities.
Moncton jumped out to an early lead and was leading 4-0 at the 12:52 mark of the first period. Pettersson and Hrivik scored in the first 4:12 of the game to chase Piche from the Sea Dogs net. Alex Saulnier and Allain Saulnier add two poweplay goals to put the Cats up 4-0. Cloutier got the Sea Dogs back into the game with 44 seconds remaining in the frame.
Within the first eight minutes the second period the Wildcats four goal lead evaporated. MacAulay, Thomas and Despres scored to tie the game at 4. Saint John scored six goals in the second period to take a 6-4 lead into the intermission. Tesink and Anthony were the other scorers in the period for the Sea Dogs.
Phillips gave Saint John a 7-4 lead 40 seconds into 3rd period as it looked like the Sea Dogs were about to run away with the game. However, a pair of Milan powerplay goals 1:51 apart got the Cats within one with 9:53 to go in the game. Huberdeau made it 8-6 for the Sea Dogs. Alex Saulnier scored his second of the night at 17:47 to go in the game to get the Cats within one. Galiev finally ended the goal fest with 46 seconds to go in the game, as his empty net goal sealed the victory for the Sea Dogs.
The Wildcats are back in action Friday November 26th when they travel to the USA to take on the Lewiston Maineiacs in Lewiston. Puck drop is set for 8:00pm AST.
