Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, NB --- The undefeated Saint John Sea Dogs continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon, annihilating the Halifax Mooseheads by a score of 6-1 at Harbour Station to improve to 4-0 on the 2009-10 season.
Third-year forward Steven Anthony led the attack for Saint John, registering the first hat trick of his career to pick up First Star of the Game honours. Danick Gauthier, the game's second star, scored two goals of his own on Sunday, while import winger Tomas Jurco chipped in with a single marker. Travis Randell tallied the lone marker for Halifax on the day.
Between the pipes, overage net minder Marc-Antoine Gelinas improved to 2-0 on the year after turning in an impressive 33-save performance between the pipes for the Sea Dogs. At the other end of the ice, rookie goaltender Joel Grondin suffered his first career loss, allowing six goals on 32 shots.
Anthony gave Saint John an early 1-0 lead on Saturday, scoring his first goal of the year on a great individual effort during a Sea Dogs penalty kill in the third minute of play. The Vancouver Canucks prospect struck again eleven minutes later, this time burying a highlight-reel feed from Olivier Ouellet to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
Halifax cut Saint John's lead in half late in the opening frame, with Travis Randell beating Gelinas high, glove-side to record his first offensive strike of 2009-10.
After a scoreless second period, the Sea Dogs exploded for four goals in regulation's final frame, with Anthony putting the finishing touches on his hat trick and Danick Gauthier netting his seventh and eighth career goals. Jurco's second of the year put Saint John up by five in the late-going, with the hosts cruising to victory from there on in.
Up next for the Sea Dogs is a Wednesday night game against the P.E.I. Rocket at Harbour Station. Tickets to this 7pm match are available by calling the arena box office at (506) 657-1234.
