Sea Dogs Host World Baseball Classic Home Run Raffle

Portland, Maine- The 2nd World Baseball Classic officially gets underway on Thursday, March 5th and eight former Sea Dogs will be taking part in the international baseball tournament. The Portland Sea Dogs are offering fans the chance to win Boston Red Sox tickets each time a former Sea Dog hits a home run in the World Baseball Classic.

Any fan who makes a ticket purchase or buys Sea Dogs merchandise at the Sea Dogs souvenir store during the World Baseball Classic will be entered into a drawing to win Red Sox tickets. Each time a former Sea Dog homers in the World Baseball Classic, the Sea Dogs will draw a lucky fan to win two Red Sox tickets to the Thursday, August 27th game against the Chicago White Sox at 7:10 PM. The drawings for all of the Red Sox tickets will take place on Tuesday, March 24th. For example, if former Sea Dogs have hit five home runs in the World Baseball Classic, five lucky fans will win Red Sox tickets. Former Sea Dogs hitters taking part in the World Baseball Classic are Adrian Gonzalez (MEX), David Ortiz (DOM), Dustin Pedroia (USA), Hanley Ramirez (DOM), Brett Roneberg (AUS), and Kevin Youkilis (USA). This group includes the 2006 Eastern League All-Star Game MVP, five Major League All-Stars, two Rookie of the Year award winners, the 2006 American League home run champ, and the 2008 American League MVP. Fans will be able to track the home runs hit by former Sea Dogs on the Sea Dogs website at www.seadogs.com.

Additionally two former Sea Dogs' pitchers are taking part in the 2nd World Baseball Classic. Pitchers Lenny DiNardo and Jason Grilli will both play for the team Italy.

Team USA will play their first game on Saturday, March 7th at 2:00 PM against Team Canada. The World Baseball Classic concludes on Monday, March 23rd. For more information on the World Baseball Classic log on to www.worldbaseballclassic.com.

The Boston Red Sox organization will be represented by 15 players in the World Baseball Classic, tied with the Mets for the most among major league teams. Players chosen from the Red Sox represent 11 different countries, tops in the majors.

The Portland Sea Dogs open the 2009 season on April 9th at 6:00 PM against the Connecticut Defenders (Giants) at Hadlock Field. The 2009 season in the Sea Dogs' 16th season in Portland and the Sea Dogs are looking to make their fifth straight playoff appearance. "The Drive for Five" is sponsored by Northeast Delta Dental.
