
Sea Dogs Drop Third-Straight to Fisher Cats

PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Sea Dogs dropped their third-straight game to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday night at Hadlock Field, 5-3. Portland drops to 45-27 and remains in first place in the Northeast League while New Hampshire improves to 34-37.
Rio Gomez tossed 1.0 perfect inning in relief for Portland with one strikeout. During the month of July, Gomez has appeared in seven games and has tossed 9.0 innings allowing seven hits while striking out 10. He has not allowed a run or walk during that time.
Johnny Barbato (2-2, 4.76 ERA) was awarded the victory tossing 5.0 innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out one. Josh Winckowski (5-2, 3.82 ERA) was given the loss tossing 6.0 innings allowing four runs on six hits while walking two and striking out five.
The Fisher Cats got on the board in the top of the first inning. Samad Taylor hit a lead-off single to centerfield then scored on a force out by Otto Lopez and New Hampshire led, 1-0.
Demi Orimoloye hit a one-out home run to right centerfield extending New Hampshire's lead, 2-0 in the second inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Wil Dalton reached on a force out at second base then advanced to second on a single by Nick Sogard. Jeisson Rosario lined an RBI single to left field allowing Dalton to score and the Sea Dogs continued to trail, 2-1.
The Fisher Cats extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning. After a lead-off walk by Nick Podkul and a single by Orimoloye, a two-run single to left field by Samad Taylor brought them both home. New Hampshire led 4-1 after the fourth inning.
Portland moved two more runs across in the bottom of the seventh inning. After Nick Sogard and Tanner Nishioka hit back-to-back singles, Pedro Castellanos hit a two-run single to right field and the Sea Dogs continued to trail, 4-3.
In the top of the ninth inning, Tanner Kirwer hit a lead-off single to left field then stole second base. Otto Lopez doubled him home, extending New Hampshire's lead 5-3.
The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats meet again for a doubleheader beginning at 5pm at Hadlock Field tomorrow, July 31st. RHP Andrew Politi (4-7, 6.52 ERA) will be on the mound for game one while RHP Victor Santos (0-1, 3.00 ERA) will start game two for the Sea Dogs. New Hampshire will send RHP Luis Quinones (0-1, 16.20 ERA) to the bump in game one and RHP Maximo Castillo (7-2, 4.92 ERA) will start game two.
