With a carryover from the last time these teams met, Justin Dickinson and Patrick McGrath became reacquainted at centre ice in the game's first heavyweight tilt. They dropped the gloves and starting throwing bombs 3:34 into the game.
Auger played the role of top penalty killer for the Dogs with a pair of pad saves shortly after the five-minute mark. The initial save robbed Ben Duffy of a great opportunity, and the second was on off a rebound chance that Auger saw all the way.
Jeremy Doucet laid the body out with three blocked shots as the Sea Dogs were down two men. The Rocket capitalized on a point shot that finally beat both Doucet and Auger. Oligny snapped a point shot at 11:13 just after the third blocked shot from Doucet came back towards the blue line.
Shots at the end of the first were 15-4 in favour of PEI.
More fisticuffs followed in the middle frame. Alex Micallef and Marcus Cuomo had a meeting of the minds at 12:21 and Oliver Cooper mixed it up with Ryan Graves in another heavyweight match up at 13:01.
Izacky pulled the Dogs even at 15:54 on a quick chance right in front of the net. Steven Duda and Noah Zilbert carried the puck into the zone. Duda had Izacky in front of Bibeau and snapped a quick pass that Izacky put past Bibeau for the tying goal.
Just before the halfway point of the third period at 9:33, Graves fired a shot that snuck past Auger to make it 2-1. Josh Currie assisted on the goal for his second point of the night to round out the scoring.
The Sea Dogs are on a road trip next weekend, and the first stop is to visit former Sea Dogs Kevin Gagné and Scott Oke and the Rimouski Oceanic Friday night. Fans can catch all the road action by tuning in to Tim Roszell on News 88.9 FM or watch on the TELUS QMJHL Webcast .
The Sea Dogs return home on Jan. 19 when the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles come to town. Tickets are available at the Harbour Station box office, visiting tickets.harbourstation.ca or calling 657-1234.
