June 8, 2019 - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) - Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

QUÉBEC - The Saint John Sea Dogs selected Joshua Roy first overall at the 2019 QMJHL Entry Draft.

Roy, a native of St-Georges-de-Beauce, QC was the consensus top player available for the 2019 Entry Draft. The dynamic forward led Quebec Midget AAA in scoring with 88 points as a rookie and went on to have a sensational performance at the Canada Winter Games tallying 13 points in six games.

"It's a privilege to pick 1st overall and we are thrilled to add Josh to our elite young core," said Sea Dogs President & General Manager Trevor Georgie. "He has incredible offensive ability and will be an important part of our team that will one day compete for our 4th President Cup and 2nd Memorial Cup."

In his rookie season of Midget, Roy netted 38 goals with the Lévis Chevaliers en route to a 41-1 team record and first overall regular season finish.

"We are thrilled with the opportunity to add a player of Josh's hockey IQ, skill set and offensive impact to our team," added Sea Dogs Head Coach Josh Dixon. "Josh is the ideal compliment to the strong young core we have in Saint John and we, as a coaching staff, look forward to getting to work with him right away at our development camp next weekend. Congratulations to Josh and the Roy family."

Listed at 5'11 170-lbs, Roy is the second ever forward selected by the Sea Dogs with the top pick. In 2015 the Sea Dogs selected Exception Status player Joe Veleno. Defencemen Alex Grant (2005), Yann Sauve (2006), Simon Despres (2007) and Luke Green (2014) were also selected by Saint John with the first overall pick.
