
Sea Dogs Come Up Short in 7-4 Loss to Rumble Ponies

Binghamton, New York- The Portland Sea Dogs (21-22, 61-51) drop second-straight with 7-4 loss to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (21-21, 56-55) on Friday night.
Blaze Jordan went two-for-four with a double and a single while Tyler McDonough went two-for-four with a triple and a single. Alex Hoppe pitched a perfect eighth inning, retiring the side in order with a strikeout.
Binghamton plated two runs in the bottom of the first after a bases-loaded hit by pitch to score Jeremiah Jackson along with a sacrifice fly to center field from Agustin Ruiz.
The scoring continued for the Rumble Ponies in the bottom of the second after an RBI double from Luisangel Acuna along with a two-RBI single from Drew Gilbert made it 5-0.
Blaze Jordan put Portland on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to left field. Tyler Dearden added another with a sacrifice fly to left field but Binghamton led 5-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, Gilbert hit a solo homer to right field to extend the Rumble Ponies lead.
Gilbert continued the scoring to put Binghamton up by five in the bottom of the sixth after an RBI single.
Tyler Esplin cut into the Binghamton lead in the top of the seventh with a two-RBI double (4) but the Rumble Ponies held the 7-4 lead.
Binghamton reliever RHP Paul Gervase (1-0, 9.00 ERA) earned the win after pitching 2.0 innings allowing two runs on two hits while walking one and striking out two. The save was awarded to Nolan Clenney (2) after pitching 2.0 scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out three. He did not issue a walk. The loss was issued to Portland starter RHP Isaac Coffey (5-3, 3.65 ERA) after pitching 5.0 innings allowing six runs on six hits while walking two and striking out seven.
The Sea Dogs return to Mirabito Stadium tomorrow, August 19th, 2023 for game five of a six-game series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. First pitch for game five is slated for 6:07pm. Portland will start RHP Wikelman Gonzalez (1-0, 2.03 ERA) while Binghamton will send RHP Dom Hamel (6-6, 4.55 ERA) to the mound.
