Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN - For the second straight day, the Saint John Sea Dogs have acquired an NHL-drafted veteran for their run at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League championship.
Saint John sent goalie Frederic Piche, 19, and a third-round pick in the 2012 QMJHL entry draft to the Halifax Mooseheads for 19-year-old goalie Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault.
The six-foot-five, 195-pound goalie from Montreal was a fourth-round selection of the Columbus Blue Jackets at the 2010 NHL draft.
"We like Mathieu's size and athleticism and we think he can help us down the stretch," said Sea Dogs director of hockey operations Mike Kelly.
The deal was completed just before the close of the QMJHL trade window Thursday. Corbeil is the fourth veteran player acquired by the Sea Dogs during the trade period as they gear up for the President's Cup playoffs.
The Sea Dogs continue play on the road Saturday against the Mooseheads, a 7 p.m. start. Tune in to News 88.9 FM for Tim Roszell's live broadcast, or stream the action online via the official TELUS QMJHL webcast (click HERE to order; charges apply).
Saint John's next home game is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11 against the Prince Edward Island Rocket. Tickets can be obtained by calling the Harbour Station box office at (506) 657-1234, or by visiting www.tickets.harbourstation.ca.
