Scrappers Shutout 'Birds, 10-0

(ABERDEEN, MD) - Mahoning Valley avoided the sweep Wednesday evening as the Scrappers defeated the IronBirds 10-0 at Ripken Stadium.

The Scrappers (20-13) avoided their second consecutive sweep to the ‘Birds (12-20) after outhitting Aberdeen 12 to 4.-

Collin Allen (0-4) took the loss, giving up four runs, while only one run was earned. The right-handed starter walked three and fanned three Scrappers in four innings pitched.

Short stop Mike Mooney led the ‘Birds offensive attack with a 2-for-3 evening.

Mahoning Valley added a three-run first inning after capitalizing on a pair of fielding miscues. Starter Colin Allen walked the first two batters before Jordan Henry, Kyle Smith and Jason Smit would score on a combination of two walks and two errors.

The Scrappers added another run in the third inning after Kyle Bellows belted a triple to right field. Bellows scored from a Rob Carlson RBI single.

Mahoning Valley used a four-run ninth inning to blow up the contest as Jake Cowan was credited with the runs. The right-hander from San Jacinto Community College conceded four earned runs on three hits with three walks and one strike out in an inning pitched.

The ‘Birds will conclude a seven game home stand on Thursday with Hudson Valley. Right-hander Patrick Kantakevich (1-2) will pitch against Renegades right-hander Alexander Colome (2-1).
