
Scrappers salvage one against Spikes

On a chilly Monday night at Eastwood field it was the State College Spikes that scored first, plating three run in the second on a bases loaded double by David Rubinstein and after two it was 3-0 Spikes.
In the bottom of the third the Scrappers scored their first run on a RBI ground out by Brock Simpson. Then added two more in the fourth on RBI singles by Cord Phelps and Tim Fedroff and after four the game was tied at three.
The Spikes then responded with four in the fifth to take 7-3 lead. Then in the fifth the Scrappers scored one on a RBI single by Walter Diaz and it was 7-4 Spikes after five.
Then in the sixth the Scrappers collected six straight singles that scored four runs, keyed by a two RBI double by Jeremie Tice and a RBI single by Lonnie Chisenhall and the Scrappers had the lead for the first time after six innings 8-7.
The seventh and eight innings went scoreless for both teams and we went to the top of the ninth with the Scrappers holding on to a on run lead a 8-7.
In the ninth Brad Hinkle set down the Spikes quickly (Hinkles 2nd save of the season) and the Scrappers salvaged game three 8-7.
