Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers rallied late on Sunday to take a 2-1 lead over the Hudson Valley Renegades in the eighth inning. However, an error in the eighth to tie the game, would set up a walk off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. The Renegades would score on a controversial call at the plate to top the Scrappers 3-2.
Hudson Valley would grab the early lead in the bottom of the third inning. Angel Perez started the inning with a triple for the first hit of the game. Perez would come in to score on a Jake Fraley RBI single for a 1-0 Renegades lead.
The Scrappers wouldn't get on the scoreboard until the top of the eighth inning. Gabriel Mejia and Todd Isaacs both walked to start the inning. Andrew Calica would then lay down a sac bunt. The throw to first by Renegades pitcher Deivy Mendez would be dropped for an error, allowing Mejia to score from second to tie the game. It also allowed Isaacs to move to third. A wild pitch would then score Isaacs with the go ahead run and a 2-1 Scrappers lead.
Fraley would triple to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning for Hudson Valley. With one out he would come in to score on an Erlin Cerda error at second to tie the game 2-2.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Miles Mastrobouni started the inning with a double. A Ping-Hsueh Chen wild pitch would move him to third. With one out, Chris Betts would lift a short fly ball to right. Isaacs secured the catch and fired home as Matrobouni broke for the plate. The throw to Logan Ice at the plate beat the runner by nearly two full steps. Ice's tag appeared to be in time before the plate, however Mastrobouni was called safe to end the game.
Tanner Tully started and took a no decision. He worked 5.0 innings and allowed one earned run on three hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out two. Michael Letkewicz would then go 2.0 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed two hits and walked two. Chen (2, 1-2) took the blown save and the loss in 1.2 innings. He allowed two earned runs on two hits.
The Scrappers (22-26) and Renegades (28-20) will conclude their series on Monday night at 7:05 at Dutchess Stadium. Juan Hillman will get the start for the Scrappers. The Scrappers will return home on Tuesday night for a six game home stand. Scrappers ticket packages and single game tickets can be purchased by calling 330-505-0000 or by visiting the Mr. Rooter Box Office at Eastwood Field.
