Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Niles, Ohio - Will Roberts and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout to lift the Scrappers to a 4-0 victory over the Staten Island Yankees.

The right-hander faced the minimum in six innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. Roberts allowed a leadoff single to Staten Island outfielder Mason Williams, picked him off and retired the next 17 batters in a row.

Cody Allen threw two innings in relief and Enosil Tejeda pitched a perfect ninth, helping the Scrappers to their second straight win over the Yankees and two of three in the series.

Mahoning Valley got the offense it needed in the sixth when Cody Elliott homered to left centerfield, a three-run home run to put the Scrappers up 3-0. Two batters later, Jake Lowery doubled in Tony Wolters to make it 4-0.

Yankees starter Bryan Mitchell matched Roberts through the first five innings, facing the minimum and allowing just one hit. Wolters singled with one out in the first before Lowery hit into an inning-ending double play. Mitchell was charged with three of the runs and picked up the loss to fall to 0-3.

The Scrappers open up a two-game series against the Auburn Doubledays Friday night at Eastwood Field at 7:05 pm.
