Amarillo Gorillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Central Hockey League yesterday named Gorillas left wing Scott Wray the Oakley Player of the Week after a three-game, eight-point performance in a trio of road contests last week.
In Amarillo's games at Odessa, Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, Wray contributed with either a goal or an assist on eight of the Gorillas' nine goals, including the game-winning goal against the Brahmas, his team's only victory during the week. Three of the forward's goals were also scored while on the man-advantage.
Wray began his week against the Jackalopes on Thursday while contributing on Amarillo's only goal with an assist to rookie Keith Rowe. The following evening against the Blazers, the veteran scored a pair of goals, including the team's first just 26 seconds into the game, and added an assist. After a day off, the Gorillas played an afternoon affair against the Brahmas where Wray snapped a 2-2 tie with a pair of consecutive power play goals in the second period in a span of just 5:30. He also earned helpers on the squad's first and last goals to complete his personal season-best four-point day. He was also a plus-two on the afternoon and even for the week.
Since rejoining Amarillo's roster on November 25th, Wray has 11 points on five goals and six assists in just a handful of games. Last February, Wray was named the CHL's Sher-Wood Player of the Month with 19 points (14 goals and five assists) in 14 games. He is off to a great start to December 2005.
The Gorillas kick off a five-game home-stand this weekend at The Jungle with a pair of contests against expansion Youngstown and division-rival Odessa on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The December 9th game against the Steelhounds is scheduled for 7 pm while the Jackalopes will suit up for action two days later at 6 pm. Friday against Youngstown, West Texas AandM presents the Evelyn Rivers Teddy Bear toss! Fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear to toss onto the ice after the Gorillas score their first goal. The bears will then be donated to the Evelyn Rivers Foundation.
Amarillo Gorillas Hockey Presented by NewsChannel 10 on Friday will be broadcast on 1440 AM The Score with Gorillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:45 pm and Sunday is set for an earlier 5:45 pm start. The games will also be available at www.amarillogorillas.com and on CHLTV (www.chltv.com).
