February 28, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[TULSA, Okla.]-The Scorpions traveled to Tulsa for the first time in over four years and muscled out a 3-2 victory. The win kept the Scorpions four points behind Arizona in the fight for the final Sothern Conference playoff spot.
Kai Magnussen put the Oilers up 1-0 as his shot deflected off goalie Ryan Gibb's glove and into the net. The Scorpions came back as Chris Robertson came out of the penalty box and started a two-on-one. He found Seth Leonard with a perfect pass and Leonard tucked the puck just under the cross bar for his 25th goal.
After hard work to keep the puck in the zone, Tyler Fuller found Chris Robertson behind the Tulsa net. Robertson scored on a wraparound goal giving New Mexico a 2-1 lead. The goal gave him 200 points in his Scorpions career.
Robertson wasn't satisfied with just two points on the night. Michael Beynon led a two-on-none towards the net and fed Robertson who found the back door open for the eventual game winning goal.
Brendon Hodge brought his team back to within a single goal as he picked up his own rebound and scored for the 18th time this season. It would be the last goal Gibb would allow as he earned his first victory in a Scorpions uniform.
The Scorpions return home on Tuesday for a date with Colorado. It is a "Two for Tuesday" with ticket special at the box office. Once inside the Santa Ana Star Center enjoy $1 hot dogs all night long.
On Friday March 6th the Scorpions will host the annual Lobo Club night. Special UNM themed jerseys will be worn and auctioned off following the game to benefit the Lobo Club.
Group tickets specials are available for as little as 10 people. Call the Scorpions' office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825) or visit www.scorpionshockey.com to find out more information about your professional hockey team. The Scorpions have been named the 2008 Rio Rancho Rotary Business of the Year.
