Wichita Thunder News Release
RAPID CITY, SD- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Rapid City Rush 3-2 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Saturday night. Joel Hanson scored two goals, while John Daigneau starred in goal for the second time in three games. It marked the first time in 33 tries this season that Wichita won a game when trailing after two periods.
Wichita fell behind 1-0 at 3:51 in the first period when Derek LeBlanc finished up a rebound on a shot from Rich Hansen. After Brad Thompson forced a turnover at the blue line, Joel Hanson skated into the puck and deked Rush goaltender Miguel Beaury with a backhand shot to the right side to tie the game at 10:18. At the 16:09 mark in the first, Kyle Sheen put Rapid City back on top, stepping into a slapshot just inside the Thunder blue line that rang under the crossbar and into the net.
After neither team scored in the second period, Marc Belanger lofted a goal past Beaudry at 2:04 in the third period to re-tie the game. Hanson delivered his second goal of the night, a one-timer on the power play from Jason Tessier at 8:03 to give Wichita its first lead. Daigneau and the defense took over during the final 11:57 and stymied several key scoring chances by the Rush.
Daigneau saved 37 of 39 to earn the win. Wichita went 1 for 3 on the power play, while going a perfect 3 for 3 on the penalty kill.
The Thunder now has the chance to break two more streaks tomorrow night. The Thunder has lost eight straight regular season games to Bossier-Shreveport, dating back to December 16th, 2006. The Thunder also has not won four games in a row since March 27th, 2006, when the Thunder won their final five regular season games.
The Thunder travels back to Wichita tonight and will host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. for its first annual Kid's Night, sponsored by the Midian Shriners. For tickets, call the Thunder office at (316) 264-GOAL.
