Scorpions Struggle in Edmonton and Lose Three of Four Games

The Yuma Scorpions left Arizona on Wednesday of last week, starting a series with the Edmonton Cracker Cats on Thursday. Since the serries has started, all the Scorpions have been able to muster is a single win in 4 games.

The Scorpions lost the first game of the series 7-3 to the Cracker Cats. Defensively, the Scorpions dropped the ball. Of the 7 runs scored by the Cracker Cats, only 4 were earned. The Scorpions were able to get runs by Rich Janeway, Jeremy Cleveland, and Ryan Barba. The biggest downfall for the Scorpions was the 13 base runners that they left on base.

Game 2 went down a bit differently for the Scorpions, seeing them walk away with their first win of the roadtrip 10-7. This game involved some of the expected late inning heroics from the Scorpions. The Scorpions scored six runs in the final three innings, including 3 in the 9th to seal the win. Rich Janeway and Darrick Hale would both hit home runs for the Scorpions. James Garcia would walk away with the win for the Scorpions.

However, after this game, the Scorpions would be unable to get another win and would head to Calgary with a 1-3 record in Canada. The Scorpions lost game 3 of the series 4 to 5 and game 4 of the Series 1 to 4.

Game 3 was a bit of a heartbreaker for the Scorpions who headed into the bottom of the 9th inning with a 4 to 2 lead. Howeverm 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th by the Cracker Cats would send the Scorpions away with the loss. Jeremy Cleveland was able to get a home run for the Scorpions.

Game 4 was very similar to game one, seeing the Scorpions leave another 9 men standing on base. The Scorpions were only able to plate Hector Bernal through the nine innings. A good sign for the Scorpions was from pitcher Donald Brandt, who would throw 5 innings of shutout baseball before being pulled.

The Scorpions have a 3 game set with the Calgary Vipers on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, before the Scorpions will head home for a 3 game set with the St. George Roadrunners beginning on Friday, July 25th.
