Scorpions downed in shootout

[ PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. ]-The Scorpions came back in the third period on Tuesday night but eventually lost in a shootout to Arizona . The official score was 2-1 with and Arizona won the shootout by the same 2-1 margin.

David Cacciola worked hard to get his team a point. In overtime, a rare penalty shot was awarded to Arizona with 3:26 showing on the clock. Brent Kelly hoped to give his team the win at that point, but Cacciola's glove robbed him of that chance.

The Scorpions took the lead in the second round of the shootout with a Mike Falk conversion. The Sundogs fought back with two straight goals from Cory Stillman and the game winner from Kelly. Sundogs net minder Chris King turned away the final two Scorpions chances, preserving the victory.

It took awhile for either team to crack the scoreboard. Jordan Mowbray did the job 12:53 into the second period. His initial shot was saved by Cacciola, but Mowbray knocked the rebound out of mid-air and into the net.

New Mexico returns to home ice on Thursday, January 25 for the annual "Kids Day Game." The puck drops at the Santa Ana Star Center at 10:30 a.m. Those who wish to purchase and donate tickets for this event can contact the Scorpions office at (505) 881-PUCK [7825].

Friday, January 26 the Scorpions will host the Rocky Mountain Rage at 7:35 p.m. The first 1,500 fans through the doors will receive a Scorpions Mr. Potato Head courtesy of Bank of Albuquerque.
