Richmond Roosters News Release

Richmond, Indiana - Matt Schweitzer added to his legacy, but the Roosters lost 7-2 at home on Thursday to the Florence Freedom. Schweitzer became the all-time strikeout leader in the Frontier League with 391. His sixth inning punch out of Freedom catcher Scott Pickens pushed Schweitzer past Phill Kojack on the list. Schweitzer, however, failed to pass Kojack for career wins (26) as Richmond managed to get only four hits in the contest. Starter Joel Posey pitched a complete game for the Freedom, giving up only two runs.

Florence scored first with a RBI double in the second by Matt Singer to give the Freedom a 1-0 lead. Another run was added in the fourth when former Rooster, Trevor Hall, homered to left field. The Freedom had a big inning in the sixth when four runs crossed the plate highlighted by a double from Singer that plated three runs for a 6-0 Florence lead.

The Roosters tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the sixth when Josh Hollingsworth lined a ball over the left-center wall for a two-run homer that scored Tony Sanguinetti. The Freedom scored the final run of the game in the seventh, however, to clinch a 7-2 win. Joel Posey (5-0) pitched all nine innings for Florence to earn the win while Matt Schweitzer (3-5) took the loss.

The Roosters will play the second game of the series on Friday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Danny Bonilla (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his first professional start for Richmond on the mound. Jason Brunke (1-3, 5.93 ERA) gets the call for Florence.
