ROCKFORD, Ill. - Aaron McEachran and Gooby Gerlits homered to lead the Rockford RiverHawks to a 15-6 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts.
McEachran hit his 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot to center field, off Windy City reliever Brandon Kellbach (0-1), in the sixth inning and broke a 6-6 tie.
The RiverHawks broke the game open by scoring seven times in the eighth inning, all with two men out. Gerlits, Jerome McCoy and Jeremy Busch all had two-run singles in the inning. Gerlits hit a two-run homer, his eighth, in the fourth inning.
Dave Dowling (1-1) pitched two innings of relief for the win. Curt Borland pitched two scoreless innings for his first save.
Jason Crosland homered in a losing effort.
The RiverHawks go for the sweep of the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. National City Bank and WROK sponsor RiverHawks Backpack Night.
The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
