Schwartz Powers Vancouver over Boise 5-1

July 15, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL) - Boise Hawks News Release

VANCOUVER, B.C. - Randy Schwartz hit a pair of long home runs, helping the Vancouver Canadians to a 5-1 victory over the Boise Hawks at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Trailing 1-0 in the second, Schwartz hammered a Yao-Lin Wang pitch over the centerfield wall to tie the score, with Steve McQuail following with a solo blast to left to give the C's the lead for good. Schwartz added his second bomb in the fourth to push the lead to 3-1, then added an RBI triple off the wall in center in the sixth.

David Rollins was solid in his first Northwest League start, striking out six in five innings for the win, while four relievers limited Boise to just two hits.

Wang took the loss for the Hawks - despite allowing just four hits and striking out a career-high nine men. Paul Hoilman had three hits and Willson Contreras added a pair of singles in the loss - Boise's first three-game losing streak of the season.

Game 3 of the series is tomorrow afternoon, as Austin Reed meets Jesse Hernandez at 2:05 p.m. (MT)

NOTES - The Hawks went their third-straight game without an extra-base hit...and have not logged an extra base since a Hoilman homer on Sunday (34 1/3 innings)...Wang's nine strikeouts were the most since Jeff Antigua fanned 11 men against Eugene in 2009.
