Dust Devils Take 2-0 Series Lead Over Eugene
The Tri-City Dust Devils improved their winning streak to three games Friday night, taking game two of the five game series against the Eugene Emeralds. With the win the Dust Devils become the first team since the Boise Hawks in the first series of the season to win multiple games in a series against Eugene.
Tri-City (14-13) starting pitcher Vianney Mayo (1-1) earned his first win of the season, allowing one Emeralds' run over five innings. He struck out five and allowed four and now has an earned run average of 1.63. Left-handed reliever Craig Bennigson worked two shutout innings of relief, striking out three and not allowing a hit.
Emeralds (21-6) starter Matt Andriese did well but didn't last long, only going three innings and allowing a run. Reliever Cody Hebner (1-1) took his first loss of the season, allowing the three Tri-City runs in 2 1/3 innings on the mound.
Dust Devils infielder Tim Smalling continued his hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a run batted in. He has now hit safely in seven consecutive games and has multiple hits in six of those seven. Tri-City shortstop Taylor Featherston had his best hitting game of the season, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a run batted in.
Friday night at Gesa Stadium will feature game three of five between the Dust Devils and Emeralds as Tri-City will try to keep their winning streak alive. Friday night is also Dollar Family Feast Night, thanks to Lamb Weston, with hot dogs, 12-ounce Coke products, ice cream sandwiches and french fries on sale for one dollar. There will also be a Tri-City Atoms throwback jersey auction thanks to Arbor Healthcare for Women. Dust Devils' pitcher Ricardo Ferrer will get the start with righty Juan Herrera getting the start on the mound for Eugene.
