BOISE, ID - A collection of four home runs pushed the Boise Hawks (Short Season A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies) to an 11-9 victory over the Vancouver Canadians (Short Season A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays).
Aaron Schunk collected two home runs on the night and lead the Hawks with three RBIs to the high-scoring win.
Schunk's first home run came in the bottom of the first on a fly ball to right-center field and gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead. They would then score again in the bottom of the second inning off an RBI-single from Tyler Plantier.
The Canadians responded with four runs in the top of the third inning off of four straight hits. Boise then tied the game up in the home half of the fourth inning from an RBI-triple from Trevor Boone. The next batter, Plantier hit another RBI-single to give Boise the 5-4 lead.
Vancouver then put up two in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead off an RBI-doule from Trevor Schweke, who later scored off a throwing error.
When it was 6-5 Canadians in the bottom of the fifth, Michael Toglia lifted his seventh home run of the season out to deep right field that tied it up. Vancouver later responded with two runs in the top of the sixth inning to retake the lead at 8-6 off the two-RBI double from Luis De Los Santos.
Bryant Quijada later lined his first home run of the season over the left field wall to put Boise within one, and then Schunk tattooed his second long ball of the night to bring across two runs and give Boise the 9-8 advantage.
In the top of the seventh inning, Vancouver tied it once again with an RBI-single from Will Robertson at 9-9.
With the bases loaded, Toglia lined a ball over to left field that bounced off of the left fielder's glove for an error and both Quijada and Bladimir Restituyo came across to score, and gave the Hawks the 11-9 win.
Game two of the series will be on Tuesday night with a 7:15 p.m. start time at Memorial Stadium.
