Portland Pirates News Release

Providence, RI - The Portland Pirates (22-13-2-0) earned a hard fought 2-1 overtime victory over the Providence Bruins (17-15-6-1), Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Rob Schremp played the role of hero, scoring his second overtime goal against the Providence this season. The win was Portland's fifth in a row and snapped five-game winning streak for Providence. The P-Bruins also saw their ten-game home winning streak snapped with the OT defeat.

The Pirates opened the scoring in the second period on the power play. Brent Regner accepted the feed from Shane Harper, and went back door to send the puck past Bruins' goaltender Malcolm Subban. Harper's assist was his 150th AHL career point. Dylan Olsen also notched an assist.

Providence had a chance to knot the game when Olsen was assessed a tripping penalty, but the Pirates held the number 1 power play unit in the AHL silent.

The Bruins came out of the gates in the third period firing, netting the equalizer early.

Colton Hargrove spoiled Sam Brittain's shutout bid at 1:19 of the period. Seth Griffith drew the only helper on the play.

Brittain stood on his head, making a career-high 45 saves to keep the game tied at the end of regulation.

John McFarland assisted Schremp on the deciding goal with 40 seconds left of the extra session to give Portland the win. Twenty-nine-year-old Schremp leads the Pirates with 32 points so far this season, including 16 goals.

The Bruins outshot the Pirates 46-32 but saw their home game winning streak end at 10.

The win improves the Pirates to 22-13-1-0 on the year, while Providence gains a point, but falls to 17-15-6-1.

The Pirates return home to the Cross Insurance Arena on Friday for a highly anticipated match-up against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
