Schaefer Shuts Out San Antonio 3-0

CLEVELAND, OH -- Nolan Schaefer?s 28-saves propelled the Barons to a 3-0 lead on Tuesday night over the San Antonio Rampage. The shutout was Schaefer?s first of the year and the Barons? second of the season as a team. Steve Bernier added two goals and an assist in the winning effort.

Special teams were the difference in the opening period as the Barons skated to a 2-0 advantage after twenty minutes of play scoring both goals on the power play. Just 3:28 into the game Barons forward Josh Hennessy scored with the man-advantage on a rebound past San Antonio goaltender David LeNeveu. Steve Bernier then followed with another power play goal at the 10:33 mark and a 2-0 lead for the Barons. Garrett Stafford assisted on both goals and Bernier added an assist on Hennessy?s goal for a multiple-point period of action. Nolan Schaefer made his 10th appearance in the last 11 games for the Barons handling all 10 San Antonio shots on goal. LeNeveu started in the San Antonio goal for the fifth straight time and made 15-saves in 17-shots on net from Cleveland.

A penalty filled second period went scoreless preserving the Barons 2-0 lead. Barons defenseman Tim Conboy and San Antonio defenseman Chris McCallister provided the period?s fireworks combining for 34 of the period?s 45 penalty minutes at the 17:34 mark. San Antonio produced the most scoring opportunities in a defensive battle out-shooting the Barons 12-7 in the period.

Schaefer handled all seven San Antonio shots-on-goal in the third period for his first shutout of the season. The Barons as a team have managed two shutouts this season; both have come against the Rampage. Bernier?s second goal of the night, into an empty net, secured the win for the Barons 3-0.
