Admirals Work OT to Top Peoria
December 27, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-The Milwaukee Admirals players should be getting paid time-and-a-half for the work they have put in the last couple of games. For the second straight night, the Ads went beyond the regularly scheduled 60 minutes to take a 4-3 win over the Peoria Rivermen on Tuesday night.
Timofei Shishkanov provided the heroics for the Admirals when he beat NHL-veteran Patrick Lalime just nine seconds into overtime. Shishkanov gathered the puck off a Rich Peverley shot and slipped it through Lalime's legs to the delight of 5,370 fans at the Bradley Center. The goal was Shishkanov's second of the night and his 12th of the season.
After two periods it looked like the Admirals wouldn't need the extra time as they held a 3-1 advantage over Peoria. But goals by the Rivermen at 7:52 and 12:30 of the third evened the score and pushed the game into an extra stanza, setting the stage for the some Russian magic by Shishkanov.
Brandon Segal and Shishkanov both notched power-play tallies in the first period as the Ads built a 2-1 lead after one period. Greg Classen would give Milwaukee lead to 3-1 with a goal at the 17:56 mark of the second on assists by Darren Haydar and Shishkanov.
In addition to his goals, Shishkanov also had an assist to finish with three points on the night and pace the Admirals offense. Goaltender Pekka Rinne turned aside 30 of 33 Peoria shots to improve his record to 13-7-1 on the season.
The Admirals are on the road for the remainder of 2005 as they travel to Chicago for a tilt with the Wolves on Thursday before making a stop in Omaha to battle the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Friday. The next Admirals home game will be on Thursday, January 5 at 7 pm versus the Iowa Stars.
