Omaha Lancers Goaltender Christian Sbaraglia

Ralston, NE - Omaha Lancers Goaltender, Christian Sbaraglia has been named to the USHL Player of the Week. Sbaraglia shares Player of the week honors with Forward, Ryder Rolston (Team USA NTDP) and Defenseman, Ty Farmer (Fargo Force).
"It feels absolutely amazing to be honored," Christian Sbaraglia said. "But, the team helped me and made it easier for me to do my job."
Sbaraglia, a native of Mississauga, ON, is receiving this honor for the first time this season. The Penn State commit, is in his first season with Omaha and has seen the ice only a number of times.
"Christian has patiently waited this season to get the starting goalie call," Head Coach David Wilkie said. "He was given an opportunity to play and he most certainly took advantage of that chance by playing outstanding for our team when we needed a win.
Sbaraglia has not seen a start before Sunday's win against Tri-City (2-1 OT) since December 2nd vs the Des Moines Buccaneers. In that game, Sbaraglia stopped 25 of 27 shots to help Omaha win 5-3 at Buccaneer Arena.
"It's definitely been hard not playing," Sbaraglia said. "I just keep working every day and stay focused on the team. I owe it to them to stay on top of my game for when they need me to help."
Sbaraglia has now played in 6 games with the Lancers this season with a record of 3-3-0-0. The young goaltender has a 2.94 GAA and a .895 SV%.
"The USHL is not an easy league for young goalies to find consistent success, but Christian has been the consummate teammate this season with a professional approach every day," Wilkie said. "We are tremendously happy for him being recognized for this award."
Sbaraglia stopped 24 of 25 shots in Sunday's matchup against Tri-City to end the winless streak for the Lancers. Omaha is now 32-16-2-3 with 67 points and sit at third place in the USHL Western Conference.
