Savannah, GA - Tonight the Savannah Sand Gnats will host the Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America prior to the game between the Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs.

Today's run is part of three simultaneous legs crossing the nation, bringing the Special Olympics Flame of Hope to all 50 states, as it journeys toward the Opening Ceremony of the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, the biggest sports event in the world this year.

"We are both humbled and honored to host the Special Olympics Torch Ceremony this evening," said Sand Gnats team president John Katz. "The magnitude of the Special Olympics touches so many athletes across the world."

The Unified Relay Across America seeks to unify the nation, creating communities of acceptance and inclusion along the way, and to build awareness about Special Olympics' work to empower people with intellectual disabilities around the world every day.

Tonight's celebration will include a band performance in our plaza beginning at 6:00 p.m. when gates open, remarks from members of the Special Olympics community, and a cauldron lighting ceremony after the torch bearer runs onto the field at 6:30 p.m.
