
Gnats Take Advantage of Ball of Dogs Paws in 10-6 Win Friday

Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats took advantage of nine infield hits and five Charleston errors to defeat the RiverDogs 10-6 Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The win was the fourth straight for the Gnats, while the loss was the fifth straight for Charleston.
The Gnats (23-25) built a 4-0 advantage with a run in the second, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth. DH Wuilmer Becerra and catcher Tomas Nido both reached base and contributed in all three frames. Of the four runs, Becerra scored two and Nido drove home two.
Becerra finished 4-for-4 with a two-run triple and and three runs scored. Three of his hits were infield singles created in part with his hustle down the first base line. Nido was 3-for-5 with three RBI.
The RiverDogs (23-25) picked up a two-out triple from Austin Aune off reliever Dawrin Frias in the top of the sixth
The Gnats immediately re-established distance between themselves and the Dogs with a four-run bottom of the sixth to take an 8-3 lead. Savannah took advantage of a pair of errors, - one fielding, one throwing, by Charleston reliever Sean Carley and three infield hits in the inning.
Becerra's two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh brought home the Gnats' ninth and tenth runs of the night.
Charleston finished the game's scoring with three runs off Frias in the top of the 8th.
Savannah starter Martires Arias earned the win for his 5.2 innings in which he allowed three runs, all earned, with a season-high eight strikeouts.
The Sand Gnats and RiverDogs will continue their four-game series Saturday at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats will start RHP Scarlyn Reyes (3-4, 3.62), while the RiverDogs will send LHP Justin Kamplain (1-5, 3.44) to the hill. There will be a Saturday Night Fireworks show and Saturday is also Girl Scout Night at Historic Grayson Stadium. Gates will open at 5 PM and first pitch is set for 6:05 PM.
