(Vancouver) Saturday night's alright for fightin ' and the BC Lions will do plenty of that at home in 2017 as the Canadian Football League released its much-anticipated regular season schedule this morning.

The Leos will play five of their nine regular season home games on Saturdays this year with two of those slated for 4:00 pm kickoffs. The remaining four home games will be Friday night tilts.

"We're quite pleased with the schedule and we believe our fans will be as well," said George Chayka, Lions' VP of business. "Many have expressed a desire for us to get more Saturday dates and we've been successful in doing so this year. We have also added later start times to two of our Friday night games to allow fans more time to get down to BC Place."

The Lions will begin the 2017 season with a key divisional home game against the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday, June 24 and then hit the road for three weeks before Andrew Harris and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers come to town on Friday, July 21.

"The schedule this year has a number of benefits for the club," said GM and head coach Wally Buono. "Playing three consecutive games in the east early on will help us to come together as a team and remove significant travel in the backend of the season."

The Saskatchewan Roughriders make their only regular season appearance at BC Place on Saturday, August 5 with an afternoon kickoff slated for 4:00 pm, while the reigning West Division champion Calgary Stampeders roll out to the coast on Friday, August 18.

The Leos will enjoy five home games after Labour Day including a visit from Darian Durant and the Montreal Alouettes on Friday, September 8, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday, September 22 and the Grey Cup champion Ottawa RedBlacks on Saturday, October 7.

The club wraps up its home schedule with a second visit by the Eskimos on Saturday, October 21 and the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday, November 4.
