Moncton Wildcats News Release
It's Pride Night at the Den! Come cheer on the Wildcats as we take on the high-powered Sherbrooke Phoenix.
A huge 4-0 win on Thursday sets the stage for a strong performance on Saturday in WildTown. The powerplay was clicking and the goaltending was perfect.
Charles Beaudoin (2G, 1A) & Vincent Labelle (1G, 2A) led the way over the Isles with 3-point nights. Max Barbashev scored again - he leads the team with 25 goals now. Jacob Steinman added to his rookie franchise shutout record with #3 on the season.
2023 NHL draft prospect Étienne Morin continues his breakout season - he leads all QMJHL defenceman in goals with 17, and sits 2nd overall in points with 54.
Anthony Hamel will be sitting out the 2nd of his 2-game suspenson. Thomas Auger is week-to-week with an upper body injury. Alex Mercier is back skating and nearing a return to full fitness & game action.
Year in and year out the Sherbrooke Phoenix seem to be formidable, and this season is no exception. Sherbrooke sit atop the QMJHL's Western Conference and have won 8 of their last 10 games. They struggled a bit in December with their top players at the World Junior Hockey Championships but are back in form since the new year. They feature 7 NHL-drafted players.
Up front, Justin Gill (35G, 37A) leads a deep offensive attack that also includes former Titan Jacob Melanson (38G, 33A) and Canadian World Junior star Joshua Roy (26G, 35A). Marc-André Gaudet (13G, 31A) and Team Canada gold medallist Tyson Hinds (11G, 31A) patrol the blueline.
The Phoenix also have Czech stars & World Junior silver medallists Jacob Brabenec (14G, 27A) and David Spacek (9G, 28A).
Sherbrooke boast a terrific goaltending tandem of rookie Samuel St-Hilaire (2.26 GAA, .908 SV%), who has won his last 6 starts, & 20 year-old Olivier Adam (2.59 GAA, .907 SV%), recently acquired from the Drakkar.
This will be a test for the Wildcats and they usually rise to the occasion when top clubs come to WildTown.
