Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings have a special night planned for Saturday night when they bring the curtain down on what has been an exciting 2009-10 Western Hockey League season.
The Wheat Kings, who kick off a weekend home and home series with Jordan Eberle and the Pats Friday night in Regina, will be looking to clinch their first WHL Eastern Division pennant since 2006-07 when they finished on top with a 41-20-3-8 record.
Brandon enters the weekend series with a three point lead on the second place Blades, with Saskatoon hosting Prince Albert Friday night. The Wheat Kings need one more point to finish on top of the Eastern Division.
Winners of six straight games, the Wheat Kings are 48-18-1-3, good for 100 points which means Brandon has reached the 100-point plateau for the second straight season, marking the first time since 1977-78 and '78-79 to accomplish that feat.
Saturday's game marks the final regular season game for at least three members of the Wheat Kings - Aaron Lewadniuk, Jay Fehr and Matt Calvert. As well, the hockey club has announced plans to unveil their 2010 Award Winners before, during and following the game.
