
Brandon clinches pennant

Regina, SK. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings kicked off a season ending weekend home and home series with the Regina Pats Friday night with a convincing 9-3 victory, clinching their first Western Hockey League Eastern Division pennant in three years.
The win - Brandon's seventh in a row - gave the Wheat Kings an impressive 49-18-1-3 record entering Saturday night's regular season finale at Westman Place.
20-year old Matt Calvert scored three times and set up two others to pace the Wheat Kings, who outshot Regina 38-31.
Brent Raedeke, Brenden Walker, Toni Rajala, Scott Glennie, Shayne Wiebe and Bradyen Schenn also scored for the Wheat Kings, who led 4-1 and 7-1 at the period breaks. Schenn, who is bidding for his third straight club scoring title, added three assists for a 4-point effort.
Entering Saturday night's return match against the Pats, Schenn leads the Wheat Kings with 99 points including 34 goals. Calvert is one point back with 47 goals and 51 assists. Schenn and Calvert are currently sitting fourth and fifth respectively in league scoring.
Saturday night's game is Wheat King Awards Night, so fans are encouraged to come early and stay late as the newly crowned Eastern Division Champions will unveil their 2010 Award winners. As well, the hockey club's 2009-10 Highlight video will be shown.
