A three-goal third period lifted the Saskatoon Blades to a 4-1 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders in the final regular season game at home on Friday night for the Blades.
Duncan Siemens (Sherwood Park, AB), Marek Viedensky (Handlova, Slovakia), Josh Nicholls (Tsawwassen, BC), and Brent Benson (Weyburn, SK) scored for the Blades, who have just tomorrow night's rematch against the Raiders in Prince Albert remaining to the regular season.
Saskatoon - 1st - Siemens (Derek Hulak, Stefan Elliott) 8:48 pp Siemens, a 16-year-old, opened the scoring for the Blades with his 3rd of the season. The freshman powered a wrist shot through a crowd past a screened Jamie Tucker to the back of the net.
Prince Albert - 2nd - Dustin Cameron (Craig McCallum, Nathan Deck) 10:55 pp The Raiders tied things midway through the middle frame on the 29th of the season from the former Blade Cameron.
Saskatoon - 3rd - Viedensky (Dalton Thrower, Hulak) 4:23 The Blades retook the lead early in the third period on Viedensky's 19th of the year and 15th in a Blades' uniform. The 16-year-old Thrower (North Vancouver, BC) worked the puck down the right wing into the Prince Albert end and sent a cross-ice feed to the Viedensky in front for a one-timer from the top of the crease.
Saskatoon - 3rd - Nicholls (Viedensky) 10:24 Nicholls gave the Blades a two-goal lead six minutes later on his 18th marker. Viedensky carried across the line and had his shot blocked, Nicholls followed up on the rebound and slid it home past Tucker.
Saskatoon - 3rd - Benson (Levi Bews) 11:22 Benson closed out the scoring with less than nine minutes on the clock. The 15-year-old call-up Bews (Longview, AB) protected the puck at the bottom of the left circle and set up Benson on his forehand in front for his 8th on campaign.
