The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that non-import linebacker Mike Mahoney has signed a one-year plus an option contract with the club. Financial terms were not released.
Mahoney was born and raised in Regina, before leaving to play at McGill University. In his four seasons at McGill, Mahoney started 45 games at linebacker and recorded over 200 defensive tackles, including a school record of 77 tackles in 2002. The 24-year old was also named the Most Outstanding Player in the QIFC and was twice named a conference all-star. Mahoney was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the 5th round of last year's draft, but was released prior to the season.
