Santos Spins a Gem in Sea Dogs Victory

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania - Victor Santos shined in his second straight start, going six innings, and striking out five in the Portland Sea Dogs (4-3) win, 4-2 over the Harrisburg Senators (3-4) on Friday at FNB Field in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Portland put themselves ahead with a run in the top of the second against Harrisburg starter Richard Guasch. Nick Sogard worked a one out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. In the next at-bat, Wil Dalton lined a base hit to center, driving in Sogard to take the lead 1-0.

The Senators fought back in the bottom of the fourth inning with Sea Dogs starter Victor Santos on the mound. K.J. Harrison led off the inning with a walk. Wilson Garcia knocked him in with a double to left, tying the game 1-1.

In the top of the fifth inning the Sea Dogs got back in the scoring column with Guasch still on the mound. Dalton led off the inning with a walk and Elih Marrero followed with a double, putting runners at second and third. David Hamilton stepped up to the plate and lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Dalton and giving the Sea Dogs a 2-1 advantage. Christian Koss grounded out in the next at-bat, moving Marrero to third. Guasch threw a wild pitch, bringing home Marrero and expanding Portland's lead to 3-1.

Harrisburg chipped into Portland's lead in the bottom of the seventh inning against Sea Dogs reliever Jake Wallace. After the first two outs in the inning, Justin Connell drove a homer over the left field wall. The long ball brought the Senators within one run, 3-2.

With another run in the top of the ninth inning, the Sea Dogs continued to add to their total against Senators reliever Gerardo Carillo. Sogard led off the inning with a hit by pitch and Cameron Cannon followed with a walk. Hamilton singled to left, driving in Sogard, pushing the Portland advantage to 4-2. In the bottom half of the inning, Chase Shugart closed the door on the Senators and a 4-2 victory.

Santos (1-1) tossed 6.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits while walking one and striking out five in his first win of the campaign. Guasch (0-2) pitched 5.0 innings, surrendering three runs on three hits while walking three and striking out five in his second loss of the season.

The Sea Dogs and Senators play the penultimate game of the series on Saturday with a 6:00 PM ET first pitch. Portland sends LHP Brandon Walter (0-1, 0.00 ERA) to the bump against Harrisburg's RHP Cole Henry (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
