Chilliwack Bruins News Release
Cranbrook BC - November 28, 2007: For the first time in Chilliwack Bruins history, a Bruins player participated in the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge Series featuring players from the CHL taking on a team of Russian All Stars. Current WHL scoring leader and Bruins forward Mark Santorelli joined Team WHL for their game tonight in Cranbrook. Team WHL fell to the Team Russia by the score of 5-1, and while Santorelli did not factor in the scoring, he had a few offensive chances and was not on the ice for any goals scored against Team WHL.
Playing on a line with Dana Tyrell of the Prince George Cougars and Zach Hamill of the Everett Silvertips, Santorelli showed why he is the league leader in assists, by setting Hamill up down low early in period one. Hamill was gift wrapped a pass by Santorelli and was left all alone in front with the Russian Goalie Stanislav Galimov at his mercy, only to slide the puck wide. Hamill returned the favor later in the period, setting Santorelli up down low, but Galimov made a shoulder save and kept the Chilliwack forward off of the score sheet.
Santorelli will travel to Medicine Hat with Team WHL and will be on hand as a spare in case of injury or other reason a WHL player is unable to compete.
The Bruins resume play on Friday night as they hook up with the Portland Winter Hawks for a home game at Prospera Centre...game time is at 7 pm. The Bruins will also host the Kelowna Rockets on Sunday, December 2nd, which will feature the 2nd Annual Ricky's All Day Grill Teddy Bear Toss...game time is at 5 pm.
