MIDLAND, MI - For the second week in a row, Loons outfielder / first baseman Jerry Sands has been named the Midwest League's Player of the Week (4/19-4/26).

Sands went nine-for-twenty (.450) at the plate last week, seven of his hits went for were extra-bases and five were home runs. Sands had two outings with multiple home runs, registering two homers on 4/21 against eastern division leader Lake County and then again on 4/24 against Fort Wayne.

For the 2010 season, the 22-year-old leads the league in batting average (.443), on-base percentage (.500), slugging percentage (.967), runs scored (18), total bases (59), hits (27), extra-base hits (16), and home runs (7). He is second in RBI with 19.

Jerry Sands and the Great Lakes Loons return to Dow Diamond Tuesday May 4 to host the Detroit Tigers Single-A affiliate, the West Michigan Whitecaps. The 7:05 p.m. game, as well as all other Loons Tuesday night games, is $1 Family Feast Night presented by Chemical Bank, which features $1 hot dogs, 16 oz. Coke products, and ice-cream sandwiches throughout the game. Tuesday is also Bay City Central High School Spirit Night.
