Homestand Notes

Team Returns Home: The Cougars return home tomorrow evening to open a brief three-game homestand against the Quad Cities River Bandits. The team's most recent road trip yielded a 2-4 record but was ended in strong fashion Sunday afternoon with a 6-3 win against Clinton. Outfielder Kent Walton went 6-for-11 in the Clinton series while infielder Leonardo Gil went 6-for-12. With a 6 p.m. evening game to open the series tomorrow, the team hits the field for noon start times on both Wednesday and Thursday. All games will be broadcast on WBIG 1280 AM and tickets are available for each game by calling the Cougars at (630) 232-8811 or visiting www.kccougars.com.

High School Sports Business Seminars: Thanks to the nearly 1,000 high schoolers and faculty, representing more than 25 high schools throughout Chicago who attended the Cougars' first-ever High School Sports Business Seminars at Elfstrom Stadium. The seminars, led by Cougars staff members, provided an inside look at the sports industry and gave the students a chance to enjoy a noon game at the ballpark.

Ozzie's Reading Club: Ozzie's Reading Club kicks off its 16th season as 443 Chicago area schools and nearly 150,000 students are participating in the reading incentive program. Students read their way through goals set by teachers, and are rewarded with a free ticket to a Cougars game, along with a pre-game parade to recognize their reading achievement. The Cougars would like to thank Provena Mercy Medical Center, Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort and College Illinois for their support of Ozzie's Reading Club in 2010.

Ross Report: Former Cougar Tyson Ross, a member of the '08 squad, has earned high marks so far with the A's after making his MLB debut earlier this month. Through play on Sunday, Ross had made six appearances in relief, with a 2.25 ERA in 12 innings of work, including one save. Ross became the 110th former Cougar to play in a Major League game, and the first member of the '08 Cougars squad to reach baseball's biggest stage.

Elsewhere on the farm: Several former Cougars have made upward movement in the A's farm system within the past week, including a pair of former Midwest League All-Stars. Outfielder Jermaine Mitchell, after spending the '08, '09 and start of the '10 seasons at Class-A Advanced Stockton, was promoted to Double-A Midland. Another outfielder, Corey Brown, was moved from Double-A Midland to Triple-A Sacramento.
