The Greenville Drive (22-47) will be extremely happy to move on to the second half, as the first half ended with a whimper in an 8-0 loss to the Savannah Sand Gnats (43-26) on Sunday. The Sand Gnats clinched a sweep of the four-game series with the victory.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when the Sand Gnats scratched two runs across against Cody Kukuk (3-7), who struggled with his control. He began the frame with back-to-back walks, and almost escaped trouble after an infield fly and a fielder's choice, but Greg Pron hit a two-run double to right field to put the Sand Gnats on the scoreboard.

Kukuk allowed just one hit and struck out three in three and two-third innings, but six walks forced an early exit.

The Drive offense had no answer for Savannah starter Gabriel Ynoa, who allowed three hits and no walks while striking out six in five scoreless frames. Marcos Camarena and Hunter Carnevale followed with four scoreless inning of relief to preserve the shutout.

The Sand Gnats added four more runs in the seventh inning with Francisco Taveras on the mound for the Drive. Jayce Boyd continued his hot hitting in the series with an RBI single to left to score Chad Zurcher, who singled to begin the inning. Stefan Sabol later picked up an RBI after reaching on a fielder's choice, and Eudy Pina followed with a two-run homer over the wall in left.

Savannah plated two more runs in the eighth against Greg Larson, as Kevin Plawecki drove in a run with an infield single and Boyd scored on a wild pitch.

Boyd, Nimmo and Pina all collected two hits for the Sand Gnats.

After the all-star break, the Drive will return to Fluor Field on Thursday to begin the second half with a four-game series against the Hagerstown Suns. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
