Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA - San Manuel Stadium and the Inland Empire 66ers announced Friday that they will once again host the "Cops & Kids" softball event on Saturday, June 25th. The event, which is sponsored by Toyota of Redlands, will welcome youngsters from Middle Schools of the Redlands Unified School District as they take part in a friendly softball game against local area police from the Redlands Police Department. The children will be the guests of honor at a cook-out and will then recognized when they take the field with the 66ers when team hosts the Visalia Rawhide that night at 7:05pm.

"Toyota of Redlands is once again proud to be a part of this event," said Toyota of Redlands General Manager Paul Smith. "We have always believed in promoting a strong relationship between police and our youth. In addition to the "Cops & Kids" event we proudly support the "Shop with a Cop" program as well as several toy drives and back to school programs to help with community outreach."

During the game itself, members of the Redlands Unified School District, Redlands Police Department, and the Inland Empire 66ers will have the opportunity to mingle with one another. All the kids will receive a 66ers hat and an authentic Sixers jersey courtesy of Toyota of Redlands. Following the game the boys and girls will be invited to listen to members of the police department and 66ers discuss the importance of a great work ethic, being a good citizen as well as have the opportunity ask the presenters questions on what it is like to be a police officer or professional athlete. Following the session, all kids, parents and families will be welcomed for a post-game barbecue dinner provided by the 66ers.

"We had such a great time last year and we are really excited to continue the partnership between all these organizations and participate in this event again," said Redlands Police Officer Chris Mead. "Reaching out to young students and helping them realize that the decisions they make now can affect the rest of their lives is a big goal of ours. The "Cops & Kids" event also gives the children an opportunity to see the positive side of law enforcement and our commitment to the community and its citizens".

"We could not be happier about having the opportunity once again to host this event," added 66ers General Manager Joe Hudson. "It is great community partners like Toyota of Redlands and the Redlands Police Department that enable us to host an amazing event such as this one. Even more importantly, we are excited about showcasing how important to the community the children of Redlands are."

The Inland Empire 66ers are the California League Affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and play their home games at San Manuel Stadium. For more information on this event and others, please contact the 66ers front office at 909-888-9922 or visit them online at 66ers.com.
